Should the professionals that work in a PR agency receive profit sharing? Marcio Cavalieri, executive director of RMA, believes on that. For him, “the profit should be shared with everyone, because it is a result of teamwork”.
To the blog PR Interview, Cavalieri said that he does not agree with the review of goals every six months. “I believe that the annual goals and measures should be in whole, not in parts”.
PR Interview: Many companies review the goals of employees every six months (formerly from year to year). Do you agree with this practice?
Marcio Cavalieri: I do not agree with the review of goals every six months. I believe that the annual goals and measures should be in whole, not in parts. It is, therefore, essential that the establishment of these goals is a consensus among the subordinate and supervisor. Thus, the rules are clear from the start.
PR Interview: The customer charges results more quickly. On the other hand, the agencies have many young people who are being trained. How can we deal with customers in this scenario?
Marcio Cavalieri: The figure and acting of the partner’s agency is still required by the customers. How do you solve this? At RMA, we understand from the beginning that the key to scalability is based on three pillars: Training, Methodology and Controls.
PR Interview: In your opinion, what should be the role of interns?
Marcio Cavalieri: I believe that interns should have the opportunity to be familiar with all areas of an agency and that means at some point in contact with the customer. However, it should be done in a planned and gradual process. In RMA, for example, we have a formal program for interns which includes 12 months of learning activities and intensive training. In the last phase of the program, the intern has some interactions with the customer.
PR Interview: How can we retain and motivate employees?
Marcio Cavalieri: We believe that an environment that provides freedom, autonomy and flexibility in decision-making encourages people in the process of creation and innovation. For example, today we have three committees that are commanded by employees. One project is organizing the celebration of RMA’s ten years. Besides the benefits of the PR industry, we have a finders fee policy, training program and a policy of transparency where any employee can suggest ideas and improvements to the business.
PR Interview: To finish up, should the professionals that work in a PR agency receive profit sharing?
Marcio Cavalieri: We believe that profit should be shared with everyone, because it is a result of teamwork.
